Throughout August youngsters are invited to get crafty at The Broadwalk Centre in Edgware to help create papier mache sculptures of character from The Gruffalo ahead of his appearance at the shopping precinct on the August bank holiday, Monday (29th).
Aptly named 'Marvellous Mondays' (with each event taking place every Monday in August), the campaign invites youngsters to get hands-on at special arts and crafts workshops to help decorate life size papier mache sculptures of characters from the hugely popular children's book The Gruffalo.
Recycled materials including paper, fabric and other bright materials will be used to bring figurines of The Gruffalo, Fox, Owl and Mouse to life. Alongside the sculpture decorating sessions, youngsters can also take part in extra 'make and take' workshops, where they will be able to create their own Gruffalo themed puppets, masks and collages to take home.
Each Marvellous Monday session will run from 12pm – 4pm and feature a different character each week. The fun starts on Monday 1st August with the Gruffalo sculpture, followed by Owl on August 8th, Fox on August 15th and Mouse on August 22nd. The sculptures will then remain in the centre until the end of the month.
The activities are being held ahead of The Gruffalo's character appearance at The Broadwalk Centre on Monday 29th August, when children and their parents are invited to meet the much-loved character at intervals between 12pm and 4pm. Families are reminded to bring their cameras as photo opportunities with The Gruffalo will also be available.
