£500 is up for grabs as voting opens for our 'In Edgware We Care' campaign –

Who wins, you decide!

Last month we announced that nominations were open for our 'In Edgware We Care' campaign - in partnership with The Times Series - which offers £500 worth of shopping centre vouchers to grassroots groups and charities to boost their neighbourhood projects, community spaces or services.

After receiving multiple nominations for the first donation, three finalists have been selected and it is up to you, the readers, to decide who will receive this month's offering of £500 worth of vouchers for The Works store within the centre.

THE FINALISTS ARE:

TOUCHBASE SOUTH EAST

A day centre based in Barnet, TouchBase South East supports adults of all ages who are deafblind, or who have sensory impairments with additional disabilities. The centre is run by highly trained staff and offers a wide range of facilities. Each individual's learning plan is tailored specifically to them in order to help them develop and thrive and become active members of the community.

One area for which the centre is seeking support is the art room. For those who are affected by deafblindness, art and crafts are a fantastic way to express themselves and the art room at TouchBase has been instrumental in the development of many of the individuals they work with.

Much of the work produced in the art room is displayed around the centre and some pieces have even been featured and sold at exhibitions, which helps to create a real sense of achievement for the individuals involved, as well as raising much needed awareness of the issues surrounding the deafblind community.

Unfortunately, art supplies can be expensive and without funding TouchBase is unable to continue to run the art programme. A £500 voucher to spend at The Works would make a huge difference and would ensure that the centre can continue to provide much needed supplies, leading to increased confidence and development of the deafblind individuals they work with.

Larches Community - Roots & Wings Social Enterprise

The Larches Community Roots & Wings Social Enterprise is an initiative where people with learning disabilities and autism gain skills for work through designing and making hand-made cards, scented candles, diffusers, bookmarks, and wellbeing gift hampers from eco-friendly and recycled rubbish.

Through a monthly stall the charity sells the items their members have lovingly made. This gives disabled people the opportunity to learn skills in sales, marketing, design layout and money skills.

Winning the £500 voucher will enable The Larches Community Roots & Wings project to purchase craft materials which they require regularly to make their merchandise.

Livability - Brookside House

Livability is a national Christian disability and community engagement charity that delivers disability services, community projects, education and training resources that promote inclusion and wellbeing.

They share their expertise internationally and are an enabling network of people, tackling barriers in society to make community liveable.
Brookside House is one of Livability's care homes and houses 24 adults with varying levels of disabilities. The home offers quality care in an environment that promotes choice and independence.

The residents at the home are always put first and should Livability Brookside House be awarded the £500 vouchers from The Works they would be directly spent on the residents to allow them to start a library at the home with books on their specific interests to aid in their development.

Voting is easy, simply email thebroadwalk@pmwcom.co.uk with the name of the project you want to win in the subject box, call Gemma Hook on 01403 783400 or vote by commenting on The Broadwalk's In Edgware We Care Post on their Facebook page.

The closing date to register your vote is Sunday 4th September 2016.

We will be giving away £500 through the 'In Edgware We Care' fund every other month so it's not too late to send a nomination. The next donation will be £500 worth of vouchers for Poundland.

Nominations should be sent to thebroadwalk@pmwcom.co.uk or The Broadwalk Centre, c/o PMW Communications, Stane Court, Stane Street, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 9HP. The closing date for the next batch of nominations is 2nd October.
